Landfill Gas, Biogas, and Renewable Natural Gas (RNG)

RNG Pipeline and Compressor Station

Northern California

We provided engineering services to design a booster compressor station and pipeline to deliver renewable natural gas at a facility in northern California.  We utilized the existing distribution to feed additional equipment. Our team initially provided full electrical design services for this facility’s digester gas project in 2011.  This included a new digester gas conditioning system. The design involved a tie to the existing 12.47kV system, new step up transformers, parasitic loads, control wiring, a coordination study, and ground grid design.

Dairy Digester RNG Facility

Jerome, ID

We provided electrical and controls system engineering design services for the installation of a 1400 SCFM digester gas to a renewable natural gas (RNG) facility.  This included engineering design services for development of electrical single line diagrams with major electrical loads and equipment, specification of major electrical equipment, design of electrical equipment layout with PDC, conduit and cable schedules and plans, along with generating estimates for electrical equipment and electrical construction. Control system design work included the creation of specifications for controls equipment, development of a network communication diagram, control conduit and cable schedules and plans, point to point connection details, and reconciliation of P&ID and control drawings.  (Project pending completion)

2.52MW Landfill Gas-to-Energy Project

2.52MW Landfill Gas-to-Energy Project

We provided full electrical design of a 2.52MW landfill gas to energy facility with the utility interface at 34.5kV.  This was a retrofit of an existing legacy plant with new engines and controls.  The design included associated paralleling switchgear, electrical design for parasitic loads, control wiring, ground grid design, and tie-in to the base fire alarm, communication, and control systems. Kupper coordinated all the interfaces to the relays and switchgear and all control wiring for breaker position, kw-hr monitoring, DTT, etc.   Additionally, Kupper coordinated telephone services required for PPL-EU and the client, and a new SCADA system for PPL-EU on the project.

3MW Landfill Gas-to-Energy Project

Kupper provided full design of new station control and protection panels for the new connection to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). We also designed a new SCADA system for the entire power plant, including the existing connection to Southern California Edison. In addition, we supplied all medium voltage equipment, such as paralleling switchgear, generator step up transformer, fused air break disconnect 34.5kV, metering switchgear, and separate ground fault protection PTs. Structural engineering support design was also included in this project.
